Growing up on the family farm and going on to develop the commercial construction department for George Moor & Co. prepared Harold Gutknecht to open the Gutknecht Construction Company in 1974. For many years he built a reputation for high quality construction in public works and was held in the highest regard among his contemporaries. Harold's leadership, integrity and passion for his work have been a model for his employees to follow and his standards of integrity and excellence are carried forward by the employees of Gutknecht Construction Company today. On September 29, 2010, the company's mentor, leader, and friend passed away. Harold's no nonsense approach to business and his sincere concern for his employee's families helped to advance Gutknecht Construction, and led him to offer the sale of the company to his employees in 1996. Today the company is a 100% employee owned company. Now with over 35 years of "Building the company's Reputation for Excellence" the company is all excited for the future of the company's company. From laborers to project managers and the office staff, the ESOP (employee stock ownership plan) has created accountability among the employee/owners not before seen in a privately held company.
