AIR Marshall Islands

The Air Marshall Islands (AMI), Inc., is a commercially operated airline which is wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and based out of Majuro Atoll the Capital City of the country and also acts as the country's flag carrier providing daily services between Majuro, Kwajalein Atoll, and the country's outer is... land (rural) communities. The airline was first established in 1980 as the Airline of the Marshall Islands but in 1989, the government changed the name to AMI, Inc. The company's current fleet is made up of one 34-seater Dash 8-100 series aircraft by Bombardier of Canada, and two 18-seater Dornier 228-212 aircrafts by Ruag of Germany, in which the newest aircraft to join the fleet is one of the two Dornier, which arrived on December 3, 2015, from Manila after going through some required maintenance before it was finally ready to come to Majuro. The company's headquarter is located on Majuro and operates a weekly flight schedule to the country's respective outer island communities which have airstrips including weekly flights to famous destinations such as the Bikini Atoll and the Enewetak Atoll which were used as ground zeros for the US' 67 major atmospheric nuclear testing program, carried out in the Marshall Islands during the 1940s to the 1950s including the bravo test that was about 1,000 times stronger than the bomb that fell on Hiroshima during WWII.
