About Ybw

Springbank Airport (YBW) is Alberta's second-busiest airport in terms of aircraft movements, and the 6th-busiest aerodrome in Canada overall. There were 147,000 aircraft movements in 2014. Operating 24 hours a day, we are a busy and growing reliever airport for Calgary International Airport and we support light aircraft activity including flight training, recreational flying, corporate and air charter activity and compatible aircraft maintenance, manufacturing and support operations. We have both a certified Instrument Landing system (ILS) and GPS approach, are an airport of entry for aircraft under 15 seats and a CANPASS designated site. Springbank Airport serves as the regional hub for aircraft and helicopter flight training and other aircraft operations which generate regular arrivals and departures by piston and light jet aircraft. YBW tenants occupy more than 50 hangars, and the airport is home to more than 400 aircraft.Springbank Airport currently has two runways. Runway 17/35 is a 5000-foot runway oriented north/south, while runway 08/26, 3423 feet in length, runs east/west. Runway 17/35, being the longer of the two runways, and equipped with an instrument landing system, is used for the majority of Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) traffic and jet activity. Dependent on wind and weather conditions, both runways are used for flight training circuits. Situated on more than 420 hectares (1040 acres) of land, YBW is located 26 kilometres west of Calgary's city centre, in Rocky View County, on the north side of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). The Airport is the closest certified aerodrome to Banff National Park, one hour away to the west. Springbank Airport is managed and operated by the Calgary Airport Authority.Read More
