Tool-Smith was founded by Bill Smith in 1979. Tool-Smith began its power tool sales and service operations in Birmingham, Alabama with five employees. In 1985, the company opened a location in Mobile, Alabama to better serve the Gulf Coast. Tool-Smith opened its Nashville sales and service facility in 1992, to meet growing opportunities in Tennesse... e. Tool-Smith continued to increase inventory levels and add service facilities to accommodate its rapidly growing business. In 1990, growth required expanding the Birmingham headquarters to its current 25,000 square foot facility. In 1997, Tool-Smith moved its Nashville office to a location with 11,000 square feet of warehouse, service and office space. In 2002 Tool-Smith Company expanded into Georgia, locating its 4th branch in Atlanta. Most recently, Ingersoll-Rand recognized Tool-Smith as their distributor in the Tri-State area, and Tool-Smith expanded operations into Western Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. Tool-Smith continues to build its business and today employs over 70 full-time sales, service and office personnel.
