Thank you for taking the time to investigate Steel Performance. This letter is to give you some additional information on Steel Performance, Inc. In July, 1999 we rearranged our priorities to "Safety, Quality and Production." We believe these items must be addressed in order to have a successful, long-term business. Our Safety Program is one of the... best in the country. SPi has implemented 100% FALL PROTECTION on all projects. We promoted one of our top foreman, Alan Reffey, to a full-time position as Director of Safety & Training. Alan has been with SPi since 1988. He has attended several OSHA courses which certified him to teach the 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA training courses. All ten SPi foremen have now completed the 30-hour course. Alan prepares a job-specific safety plan for each new job that he and the foreman review and sign. Most recently, Alan has started a safety committee with members from each crew represented. All new hires must take a supervised drug test and safety training course before they are allowed on a job site. To support the safety program, SPi has invested over $250,000 in new safety rigging. This investment is already paying dividends as SPi set a company record of over 100,000 man-hours worked without a lost-time accident. SPi has also received several awards and letters of recognition for our safe work environment (CLICK HERE). Our Quality Program begins before the job starts with an in-house meeting of operations, estimating, safety, and the field foreman. In the field, the foremen do quality inspections to catch potential problems before a formal inspection is scheduled. SPi will soon complete the new AISC Erector Certification program. Our Production Program begins with a pre-construction meeting to develop the best method of erecting a project. We realize that performance is critical to contractors. With ten crews and nine cranes available, we are able to allocate enough resources to complete projects on or ahead of schedule without compromising our safety and quality goals. SPi ...Read More
