SnapScan provides contract-free payment services in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria, just as Apple Pay does in the United States. The process is as follows: once the SnapScan app has been downloaded, the user takes a photo of a product's QR code and enters a 4 digit code to confirm the purchase. South African HR and payroll startup Radar has been acquired by mobile payments provider SnapScan as founders Kobus Ehlers and Gerrit Greeff exit their second startup to their first one.
SnapScan, Zapper, And FNB Are Not Getting On
Last week, FNB was talking about having SnapScan and Zapper on board with its payment terminals. That talk may have been premature.FNB claims it can take outside QR payments at Speedpoints. SnapScan and Zapper disagree.
Zapper says it will be leaving MasterCard's Masterpass ecosystem before the end of October. SnapScan says it hasn't allowed FNB Speedpoint payments.
