Smokey's Tavern in Vernon, NJ, one of the only restaurants in the US to get all its electric power from solar energy, has installed an electric charging station, thus extending the restaurant's Smokey's already tiny carbon footprint. Smokey's relies on solar panels arrayed in an adjacent field in Vernon, NJ, to provide 100% of its electric energy,... powering lighting, refrigeration, cooling and the restaurant's gourmet food smokers. Customers with electric cars or hybrids who are stopping at Smokey's for a craft beer, a thin-crust pizza or restaurant meal to recharge their vehicle for free. How the System Works Smokey's acreage of solar voltaic panels, located in an adjacent field to our Vernon location, is capable of generating a tremendous amount of power, beyond what Smokey's actually consumes. The Smokey's system is 246 kilowatts in size, sufficient to provide most of its power consumption, having to rely upon a minimum amount of gas to power some of its stoves and ovens.
