SK picglobal is a joint venture company between SKC, a SK Group member company based in South Korea, and Petrochemical Industries Company K.S.C., a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Company. It is the very first company in the world that commercialized HPPO process in 2008, considered to be the future technology of producing propylene oxide because of its eco-friendly nature of manufacturing. Propylene oxide is used as a key raw material for polyurethane materials having applications for automobile, home appliances, furniture and construction. Propylene glycol is an additive to pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food products because of its environment-friendly nature. SK picglobal의 전신은 1987년에 유공과 미국 화학기업 Arco Chemical사가 합작 설립한 ‘유공-아코화학’입니다. 아코화학(현 LyondellBasell)과 PO/SM 라이선스 계약을 맺은 후, 1991년 폴리우레탄의 원료인 PO(프로필렌옥사이드) 국내 최초 상업화에 성공했습니다. 이를 토대로 PG(프로필렌글리콜), Polyol(폴리올)을 포함한 화학사업을 시작하였습니다. 2020년 SKC 화학사업은 분사 후, 쿠웨이트 국영석유화학기업인 PIC (Petrochemical Industries Company)와 합작하여 SK picglobal로 재출범하였습니다.
