About Santos
Santos is one of the leading independent oil and gas producers in the Asia-Pacific region, supplying energy to homes, businesses and major industries across Australia and Asia. Founded in Adelaide in 1954, SANTOS was originally an acronym for South Australia Northern Territory Oil Search. We began providing natural gas to Australian homes and businesses in 1969 from our Moomba fields in South Australias Cooper Basin. Supply to NSW commenced in 1976 following construction of the Moomba to Sydney pipeline. We began exploring for natural gas in NSW in 2008, mainly in the areas around Gunnedah and the Upper Hunter. In November 2011, Santos acquired Narrabri-based Eastern Star Gas and the companys operations in and around the Pilliga. Our operations in NSW are focused on the development of the Narrabri Gas Project, which could supply up to half of NSWs natural gas needs. The Environmental Impact Statement for the Project is currently being assessed by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments.Explore more
