About Recin

RECIN, like many other immunization registries, was created to record childhood immunizations and to protect children from immunization preventable disease. Today, that remains a major part of RECIN's mission. However, immunizations are given at every stage of life, from young adult tetanus boosters to influenza and pneumonia vaccines for older adults. All immunizations can and should be recorded in RECIN regardless of the patient's age. "RECIN has great provider participation and we have a handle on childhood immunizations," said Tina Ellis Coyle, a RECIN system coordinator. "Now it's important to capitalize on what we've learned with children and put it to work protecting people of all ages. For example, pneumococcal is the seventh leading cause of death in older adults. By tracking immunizations across the lifespan, we can then utilize RECIN's intervention tools to outreach to patients who have not been properly vaccinated."
