For approximately 15 years, the PMBA has been involved in a Fair Ministry Week to the fair workers of the Dixie Classic Fair. This ministry was begun over 20 years ago by Pfafftown Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. The Pilot Mountain Baptist Association was approached about the possibility of making this an association-wide project. After meeting with the Community Partnerships Team, we decided that this was indeed a great opportunity to reach out to the fair workers as well as local people in our communities who hire on during the Fair. We begin collecting hygiene kits in January. We try to provide over 450 hygiene kits, along with new or slightly used blankets, gently used golf shirts, and Bibles and devotional materials. In July, we begin collecting items for our Canteen. We need snack cakes, cookies, soft drinks, lemonade mix, coffee, and lots, and lots, of water. On Thursday, September 29, we will host a hot dog supper for everyone. We will need turkey franks (to accommodate those workers who do not eat pork), 400 individual bags of chips, brownies or homemade cookies, 6 - 8 large cans of chili, 3 - 4 tubs of coleslaw, 3 tubs of chopped onions, 450 hot dog buns, and paper products. Tuesday and Wednesday we provide a bag meal around 5:30 PM to all the fair workers. We need churches to donate 25, 50, or 100 bag meals each night. We try to provide at least 400 bag meals each evening. Contact Barbara Benge if you would like to donate a bag meal (336) 816-4375.
