Maier+Vidorno was founded by Klaus Maier in 2000. During his time as head of supplies at the Stinnes Group, Maier became well acquainted with the many obstacles and pitfalls involved in setting up and running a business in India. He now uses his expertise and the experience gained to assist and advise international businesses who wish to enter the... Indian market. In his role as director of Maier+Vidorno he manages the development of business services, sales & marketing channels and production facilities on the subcontinent for international companies. During his time with Stinnes, Klaus Maier witnessed first hand how easy it can be for a business venture in India to stumble and fall, especially if, in a bid to save costs when starting out, compromises are made on the administrative and operational side. And he knows the dilemma from his own experience: workflows in India are highly compartmentalised; unlike in Europe or the USA, you cannot expect the same member of staff to be responsible for several different aspects of the business. Sales, HR, supplies, import, bookkeeping, administration, legal compliance - everything must have its own dedicated staff and manager. To keep costs down, however, multitasking is usually expected in the early stages of a young business, and this may jeopardise the whole Indian venture. This is aggravated by the fact that businesses in India are generally required to be active in multiple locations. India is not a country for a highly centralised operation. Regional representation is imperative, putting more pressure on resources and budget. Almost all foreign businesses which Klaus Maier has met through his work in India were grappling with these issues. And this is what led to the idea for his own business.
