About MOHELA
MOHELA, officially known as the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, is one of the largest student loan servicers in the United States, headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri, with additional offices in St. Louis, Columbia, Missouri, and Washington, DC. Established by the Missouri General Assembly in 1981 as a quasi-governmental entity, MOHELA was originally created to ensure access to higher education for Missouri students by overseeing loans guaranteed through the Federal Family Education Loan Program. Following the abolition of that program in 2010, MOHELA expanded its operations and now services over 7.5 million federal student loan borrower accounts on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, along with approximately 330,000 private student loan accounts. Since July 2022, MOHELA has served as the sole servicer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, managing loan forgiveness applications for eligible public servants including teachers and social workers.Explore more
