Functional Family Therapy

Functional Family Therapy Associates Inc. was founded by Thomas Sexton and Astrid van Dam in 2007 to bring a renewed emphasis to clinical training, clinical specificity, and updated clinical training technology in a collaborative way with the company's community partners. The company began implementing FFT in 1997. FFT's first national training gro... up was co-founded in 1998 by Jim Alexander and Thomas Sexton. From 1997 until 2007, FFT Inc. disseminated FFT to over 200 different organizations in 2 countries. During that time, more than 2500 FFT therapists were trained and approximately 40,000 families and youth received FFT. Since that time the company has continued to do FFT specific family therapy training. The company now have FFT sites in over 8 states and 3 countries. Given that the training materials and process were developed jointly, the two certified FFT Training Providers (FFT Associates and FFTinc.) share a common legal agreement for FFT training materials. The company follow the most recent Blueprint for Violence Prevention Treatment Manual (Alexander, Pugh, Parsons, & Sexton, 2000), the most recent published independent manual for FFT by the Institute for the Prevention of Violence (Blueprints). That manual is the basis for the Annie E. Casey sponsored FFT Clinical Training Manual (Sexton & Alexander, 2004).
