About Fahsoh

Filipino-American Historical Society of Hawaii (FAHSOH) was established in December 1980 by a coalition of community leaders, academics, legislators, and concerned citizens. FAHSOH's founding directors and officers were: Ruben R. Alcantara, Mako Araki, Aileen Arre, Lito Asuncion, Maria Victoria R. Bunye, Rev. Daniel Dever, Melinda Tria Kerkvliet, Daniel W. Y. Kwok, Andrew W. Lind, Benjamin M. Menor, Patsy Mink, Helen Nagtalon-Miller, Angel Ramos, Shiro Saito and Steffi San Buenaventura. This coalition saw the need to preserve, enhance and promote an appreciation of Filipino heritage and the experiences of Filipino Americans in Hawaii. FAHSOH also collaborates with other organizations sharing similar interests in promoting the understanding of the Filipino American experience and those of other ethnic groups. These organizations include the Filipino American National Historical Society, Filipino Association of University Women, Filipino Centennial Celebrations Commission, Hawaii's Plantation Village, Knights of Rizal (Hawaii Chapter), UH Office of Multicultural Student Services (formerly, Operation Manong), and Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii. In 1998 FAHSOH became a non-profit 501(c)(3). FAHSOH raises funds for its activities through membership fees, grants, and private donations.
