Energy Technology Partnership

The Energy Technology Partnership (ETP) is committed to supporting the sustainable energy community in Scotland. We mainly do this through our 3 core areas of work; building a community of researchers whose goal is social and economic development; the KEN Engagement Fund which provides funding to Scottish SMEs for the development of sustainable tec... hnology and systems; and our Energy Industry Doctorate Programme. ETP facilitates academic and industry collaboration through the Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN). Scottish SMEs working in low carbon technology development may be eligible for up to £10k of funding. Recently, a previous recipient of the KEN Engagement Fund, Orkney Distillery 'HySpirits' project, which aims to provide environmentally friendly heat during distillation, were awarded further funding from the UK government to make the project a reality, which will result in making their industrial process cleaner by lowering emissions. Over the past eight years we have awarded over £1 million funding for new product and process innovations that provide a sustainable future. In addition to supporting the development of green innovation, ETP has awarded over £3 million to over 100 PhDs since 2010. Each PhD project is sponsored by industrial companies, where students undertake research in support of the Scottish Government's Energy Strategy, which aims to support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Post-graduate students across 13 of ETP's member universities are given an opportunity to focus on specific energy technologies such as tidal energy or bio-mass and cross-cutting themes such as energy economics, policy and energy systems while working with an industrial partner.
