The Men's Advice Line offers a confidential helpline for men experiencing domestic abuse from a partner or ex-partner (or from other family members). They help by giving you time to tell your story; offering emotional support; providing practical advice; signposting you to other services for specialist help. My friend, work colleague or family member is experiencing abuse, what can I do? There's never any excuse for abuse - the fault lies entirely with the abuser and not with those suffering abuse. If you know or suspect that a family member, friend or work colleague is experiencing domestic violence, it may be difficult to know what to do. It can be very upsetting that someone is hurting a person you care about. Your first instinct may be to want to protect your friend or family member but intervening can be dangerous for both you and them. Of course, this does not mean you should ignore it. There are things you can do to help make the victim and any children safer. If you should witness an assault, you can call the police on 999.
