Knowing that CDC has the capability to self-generate electricity (double its usage requirements) ActewAGL approached CDC to assist with the expected heat wave power demand - to curtail demand and help avert a potential power supply crisis situation. By switching to self-generated power during the peak usage times, CDC reduced demand on the grid - providing more electricity (5-7 MW) for use by Canberra residences and businesses during this critical period. CDCs' Chief Executive Officer, Greg Boorer was excited to be able to take advantage of their state-of-the-art technology and unique facilities design. "Availability for the company's customers is the company's major priority - it was excellent that were able to provide support to the ACT community and national energy network suppliers during this time too." It was estimated the combined response to the emergency avoided 'load shedding' scenarios that would have affected between 3,000 and 30,000 connections (5,000 to 45,000 people).
