Better Tools for Multi-site Research

The Institute of Translational Health Sciences is dedicated to speeding science to clinic practice for the benefit of patients and communities throughout Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, (WWAMI) and beyond. ITHS promotes this translation of scientific discovery to practice by fostering innovative research, cultivating multi-disciplinary... research partnerships, and ensuring a pipeline of next generation researchers through robust educational and career development programs. We are one of more than 50 Clinical and Translational Science Award sites nationwide working to change how biomedical research and training is performed. This national consortium was funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health. In the past, individual groups looked at health issues only from their perspective. We now realize that partnerships between scientists, clinicians, and communities are needed to tackle complex health issues. The ITHS is a partnership between the University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Childrens. We also collaborate with regional institutions, providers, and community organizations. More than 6,500 researchers from over 220 different organizations across the five-state WWAMI region have collaborated with us to attract grant funding, build their research teams, develop research tools, move research projects forward, and engage with patients and the community.Read More
