About Belgrade Centre for Security Policy

The most significant contribution in this area came with the launch of "Civil Society Capacity Building to Map and Monitor Security Sector in the Western Balkans Region" project in 1997, which not only provided comparative research on SSR achievements in the region but also resulted in the established Consortium of Western Balkan Security Think Tanks composed of 7 think-tanks. Owing to the partnership the Centre established, the regional consortium of think-tanks working in the area of security studies emerged as the first network of this kind in the region. Besides this, the Centre also helped train local CSOs in Serbia enabling them to oversee the security sector and security related policies in Serbia. Significant contribution to the understanding of European security policies was provided through a one year educational course which the BCSP delivered in 2010. This course targeted youth members of political parties who were offered a structured and prepared course related to the most relevant issues of global and Euro-Atlantic security. A special outcome of this project is the first online course introducing EU security policies. Besides introducing a new learning method, this course provided a systematic source of information on European security and it is the first reference in Serbian at the beginner and intermediate level. In the advocacy arena, continuous efforts were invested in regards to police reform as part of ongoing project "Europeanization of Police Reform in Serbia". Within the project, together with two partner organizations the Centre publishes a monthly "Newsletter on Justice and Home Affairs of the European Union and Serbia," which remains the only regular source on JHA in Serbia. In 2011 the BCSP conducted the newest public opinion poll in regards to the perception of personal and national security, trust towards state security institutions, and orientation towards security integration.
