Designed as an extension and elaboration of the former Behavioral Pharmacy Management Program, MDTMP is being implemented by the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute of the University of South Florida (USF), through its agreements with Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the Department of Children and Families (DCF)... and its subcontractors. Components of the program include: Development of adults and children/adolescents psychotherapeutic guidelines Identification of complex care indicators Analysis of claims for mental health medications Interventions with clinicians Ongoing surveillance, follow-up and re-measurement Project designed to promote integration of medical and mental healthcare Implementation of a state-wide Child Psychiatry Access Call Line Development of a registry to track the use of antipsychotics in children Project to promote the appropriate use of clozapine Implementation of a clinical trial designed to assess the risks and benefits of switching patients with schizophrenia from two to one antipsychotic medication The Medicaid Drug Therapy Management Program for Behavioral Health includes the development of Florida specific best practice guidelines and their dissemination through a variety of methods created and implemented by the prescriber community. These treatment guidelines will represent a consensus of the prescriber community and will reflect the best available scientific information. MDTMP also includes a claims review process and educational mailings to inform physicians of prescribing behavior that may be worth reviewing. While recognizing that the individualized care of patients is ultimately the responsibility of the treating physician, by working collaboratively with Medicaid prescribers, it is MDTMP's mission and commitment - with a particular emphasis on children - to improve the overall quality and efficiency of the prescribing of mental health drugs and the health outcomes of those Medicaid beneficiaries with a mental illness.
