Araripe

About 5 years ago I was working for a small startup company based in telecoms. The atmosphere was dull, whenever the Managing Director came in, everyone sat in silence. Days were often long, this, however, gave me the chance to get my creative juices flowing and look for a way out. One problem Id spotted in the male fashion marketplace was that too... many people wore the same brands of clothes. Your clothes should represent who you are, they are like your skin. Therefore we wanted to create a new brand where we limit the amount we of each item we make, meaning less people wearing the same clothes. I decided I wanted to create a fashion brand thats rare meaning the people who wear them are fully committed to the brand. There would be limited quantities of each garment made, hopefully reducing the number of clashes and keeping individuals feeling unique and superior. Not going down the route of selling as many as we can to make more money. Once wed thought of the problem and how we want to solve it we then needed a name. One day upon searching rare animals we came across the bird the Araripe Manaquin, which is a rare bird in Brazil. The bird had a striking red mohican which made it a beautiful animal. This ticked the boxes beautiful and rare meaning our logo and brand had started to form. We visited a website which allowed people to tender for our projects and we put out our thoughts and design information. We were basically hoping that someone would create the vision in our head and get it right first time. Unfortunately, this wasnt the case and the logo we got back didnt feel that special, it was also hard to visualise on products. Here is where the idea was put on the back burner for a few years. The early momentum had died and but this wasn't the end of the idea as the flame still burnt inside me.
