The mission of AIDS PEI is to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS (P.H.A.), those most affected and those at risk through the delivery of health promotion programs, prevention initiatives, and education activities. AIDS PEI also works to develop and promote community engagement in response to H.I.V. and all sexually transmitt... ed blood-borne Infections (STBBIs) across sectors. As an organization, we recognize and acknowledge the diversity of our communities and the need to employ a health determinants approach in all of our work. AIDS PEI is committed to creating a caring, non-judgmental environment free of stigma and discrimination.AIDS P.E.I. is guided by the principles of health promotion, population health, and community development. It acknowledges that determinants of health such as income inequality, gender, social support networks, education, social and physical environments, personal health practices, coping skills, culture, biology and genetic endowment must all be addressed if community-based AIDS work is to be effective. AIDS PEI works to affirm the voices of people living with or most affected by HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and other STBBIs. We are dedicated to developing new and innovative prevention/education initiatives for targeted populations including Youth, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBTQ+) community, Women, people who use drugs, and those in correctional institutions. These initiatives enable individuals to manage their health through access to high-quality support and educational programs. AIDS PEI utilizes community development principles such as capacity building and community ownership to achieve these goals. We are committed to sharing resources and experiences to develop partnerships and to promote the collaborative development of a community-based response to H.I.V. and Hepatitis C throughout P.E.I.
