What does The Creek do?

The Creek is an exclusive golf club located on Long Island's Gold Coast, approximately thirty-three miles from New York City, founded in the early 1920s during the golden age of golf architecture. Established by a syndicate of prominent business leaders including Vincent Astor and George F. Baker, the club was built on a 600-acre estate in Locust V... alley that had previously served as the residence of Paul Cravath, a prominent corporate lawyer. The club's design was conceived by Charles Blair Macdonald, widely recognized as the father of American golf architecture, whose objective was to capture the principles and strategic elements of the great holes he studied throughout Scotland at the turn of the twentieth century. The property itself carries significant historical significance, having been originally purchased from the Algonquin tribe known as the Matinecocka name meaning "land of overlooks"in 1667, and later settled by the Frost family in 1674, whose cemetery remains on the grounds today with gravestones dating back to 1776. The club was created in response to a need for an intimate and family-friendly golf community accessible to Manhattan's business elite, with the founding vision developed by Harvey Gibson, president of Manufacturers Trust Bank, and Frank Crocker, who recognized the value of engaging Macdonald's expertise. The Creek maintains an unwavering commitment to Macdonald's original design and vision, preserving the architectural integrity of the course while serving as a premier private club for its membership. The club's location, historical provenance, and association with one of golf's most influential designers position it as a significant institution within the American golf landscape and the broader Long Island community.Read More
