Skagit Public Utility District (PUD) is a municipal water utility serving Skagit County, Washington, and has been committed to delivering safe and reliable water services since 1936. Operating the largest water system in the county, Skagit PUD supplies approximately nine million gallons of piped water daily to roughly 70,000 residents across a geog... raphically diverse service area that spans from Conway in the south to Alger and Lake Samish in the north, and from Fidalgo Island in the west to Marblemount in the east. The utility maintains an extensive infrastructure comprising over 650 miles of pipelines and more than 31 million gallons of storage capacity, with the primary service cities of Mount Vernon, Burlington, and Sedro-Woolley complemented by water delivery to unincorporated and remote areas throughout the county. Skagit PUD sources its water from the protected Cultus Mountain watershed east of Clear Lake, which is piped to Judy Reservoira 148-acre facility capable of storing approximately 1.5 billion gallons. The utility employs modern water treatment technologies and rigorous filtration processes to ensure all water meets Safe Drinking Water Act regulations and quality standards. A notable achievement came in 2007 when Skagit PUD's water quality earned recognition at the American Water Works Association taste test competition, placing first in the Pacific Northwest and fourth nationally, demonstrating the utility's commitment to delivering exceptional water quality. Governed by three elected commissioners serving staggered six-year terms on a non-partisan basis, Skagit PUD operates with a strong focus on resource conservation and stewardship. The utility actively participates in watershed protection initiatives as a member of the Skagit Watershed Council and prioritizes in-stream flow protection, balancing current service demands with long-term environmental sustainability and community needs.Read More
