Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City is a faith-based social services organization with deep historical roots dating to 1912, when St. Joseph's Orphanage was established to serve vulnerable populations in the region. Over more than a century, the organization has evolved from operating institutional facilitiesincluding a maternity... home, boardinghouse for working women, and elderly care facilityto delivering a diversified portfolio of direct social services tailored to contemporary community needs. As part of the nationwide Catholic Charities USA network, founded in 1910, the organization serves families, children, and individuals experiencing poverty, homelessness, and other hardships across the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. The organization's core mission centers on making Christ's love visible and tangible for those in need through compassionate, justice-oriented programming. Catholic Charities has demonstrated strategic adaptability in response to shifting social service delivery models and funding landscapes; notably, the organization transitioned from large institutional models toward smaller, specialized group homes and community-based interventions that better serve targeted populations. In addition to direct service provision, Catholic Charities emphasizes capacity-building and training for parishes, enabling faith communities to answer their Gospel call to serve the poor and vulnerable. Through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the organization works to address root causes of poverty and injustice rather than symptoms alone, reflecting a comprehensive approach to social change. The organization's longevity and sustained commitment to underserved populations underscore its credibility and operational resilience within the Oklahoma faith community and broader Catholic social services sector. Catholic Charities continues to expand its reach through mercy, charity, and justice-centered initiatives, supported by a nationwide network of resources and expertise.Read More
