What is The Loft Cinema?
Established in November 2002, The Loft Cinema operates as a mission-driven, membership-supported nonprofit arts organization dedicated to providing access to a diverse range of independent American and foreign films, documentaries, and classic art films for the greater Tucson area and all of Southern Arizona. The organization is distinguished by its commitment to screening new independent cinema and hosting numerous film industry professionals and scholars for Q&As, having welcomed over 450 guests to date. Its programming also includes interactive events, monthly short film contests, sing-alongs, cult favorites, an annual international film festival, and a free children's film festival. With over 3,000 memberships representing more than 5,000 individuals, The Loft has seen attendance more than triple since its inception, attracting over 150,000 patrons in 2011. Its excellence in programming and community service has earned it recognition as a member of the Sundance Institute's Art House Project and an official venue for the Sundance Film Festival's Sundance USA program. The Loft is also a collaborating partner with Film Forward: Advancing Cultural Dialogue, positioning it among a select group of American cinemas fostering cultural exchange.
