What is SECME?
Founded in 1975, SECME operates as a pre-college alliance, connecting 111 school systems (comprising 1,100 K-12 schools), 43 engineering universities, and 70 corporate and government investors. The organization's core mission is to increase the pipeline of under-represented students equipped to enter and succeed in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Last year, SECME's programs engaged approximately 20,000 students, with around 3,500 seniors eligible for undergraduate scholarships awarded through SECME and its university partners. The organization has a proven track record, having trained over 4,000 teachers through its summer institutes and graduated nearly 75,000 seniors, 90 percent of whom pursue four-year college degrees.

What's next for SECME?
The recent financing, characterized as substantial expansion capital, positions SECME for significant growth and enhanced program delivery. Operating at a significant Series B/C stage, this investment is expected to fuel the scaling of its initiatives, potentially expanding its reach to more school systems and universities. The capital infusion will likely support the development of new educational tools, teacher training programs, and scholarship opportunities, further strengthening SECME's impact in addressing the under-representation of minority students in STEM careers. This strategic backing signals confidence in SECME's model and its capacity to cultivate the next generation of STEM leaders.
