What is Mindful Schools?
Mindful Schools is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating awareness, resilience, and compassionate action among children and educators. Founded in 2007, the organization began by teaching mindfulness in Oakland, California public schools. It has since expanded to support schoolwide mindfulness program implementation nationally, offering professional development and K-12 curriculum training for educators. Their approach is developed by educators, for educators, providing an accessible pathway for adults to integrate mindfulness into their practice and support inclusive, trauma-sensitive learning environments. Innovations include a new K-12 Mindfulness Curriculum aligned with The Domains of Mindful Teaching and the Mindful Schools Rubric for Assessing Schoolwide Mindfulness.
