We each inspire and challenge the other to grow and improve, to do better every day. We are both photographers, John is a woodworker and avid gardener. Carrie is also a fiber artist and an amazing award winning cook. Most... of our art is photography and fiber arts as you can see on this website. Since starting Zigzag Mountain Art we have sold at many art shows and had our art displayed at Timberline Lodge, Three Rivers Artist Gallery and the Whatcom Art Market. My images have been used as book covers and on numerous websites including the Wall Street Journal and Food TV. I am inspired by the rising sun and the setting sun. By trees and birds and majestic mountains. By a bowl of fruit or a vase full of flowers. By a rainbow or a storm cloud. By lush coastal forest or desolate high desert. There is beauty in everything if only we stop and look. Purists might not agree but I believe the image the camera captures is just the beginning. That is the craft part of photography and it is critically important. But the art takes that image and turns it into my vision. Photography is the blending of craft and art. It requires both parts in equal measure. My father was an amateur photographer with his own darkroom. It was just a hobby for him but he introduced me to photography at a very young age. My mother was a florist and though she would never have considered herself an artist her work certainly qualified her as such.
