Its founders,Jelena and Miodrag (Mickey) Zeljkovic, national champions in their native Serbia in all three weapons, aim to promote the Olympic sport of fencing in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area. Fencers are highly trained, all-around athletes. Fencing has been an Olympic sport since the first modern games in 1896, and competitions are held at the local, state, national and world level. More than 30 top-tier colleges in the U.S. have an NCAA fencing team and many recruit skilled high school fencers early.
