Zebra Crossings was founded on the belief that young people need to have opportunities to feel empowered in a safe and supportive environment that allows them to learn new skills, to explore their values and beliefs, to feel a sense of belonging. Zebra Crossings mission is to enrich the lives of youth with chronic medical conditions by fostering greater self-confidence, a sense of independence and a desire to realize their full potential through fun and engaging enrichment programs that build a strong and caring community support network for families. The overall well-being of youth with chronic medical conditions and their families has improved, as they: Experience a sense of optimism and preparedness. Take responsibility for their own health and make healthy choices. Pro-actively seek opportunities to achieve their goals. Feel supported by a community network of peers. Our core values are interwoven throughout every program and serve as the foundation for time together: Play: We connect with one another and can be worry free for a while through play. This is how we rejuvenate and recharge our spirits. Independence: We empower people to make their own choices and take responsibility for their decisions. Achievement: We seek opportunities to set and achieve goals that empower people to move beyond perceived limitations and to live life to the fullest. Wellness: We commit to taking care of ourselves and make healthy choices that have a positive impact on our wellness.
