About Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office

The Sheriff's Reserve is a group of sworn, part-time, volunteer citizens who assist the Sheriff in supplementing full-time sworn deputies, in performing the day-to-day delivery of law enforcement services and in emergencies. Reserve Deputies are commissioned only by the Sheriff and they are directly responsible to the Sheriff through a full-time sworn deputy sheriff who will act as the Sheriff's Reserve Coordinator. Reserve Deputies have peace officer powers and authority to arrest only when authorized to be on duty and perform these functions as a representative of the Sheriff. To maintain the status of a Reserve Deputy with the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office, a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer time per month is required. Meets the qualifications of M.C.A. 7-32-213 . A person wishing to ride must have photo I.D. that is acceptable to the Commander. Must be eighteen (18) years of age and sign the Waiver and Release of Claims and Indemnity Agreement, or if the person is under eighteen (18) years of age his parent or guardian must also sign the Waiver and Release of Claims and Indemnity Agreement. Persons under the age of eighteen (18) years of age may ride between the hours of 0800 and 2000 hours. Civilian ride alongs are permitted once each year.
