Yellow Brick Road Early Learning Center

It became a mission for Grace Episcopal Church and was housed in the undercroft of the sanctuary from 1978 until it was moved to the present location in 2002. The move involved a community effort. The 3 year old and Pre-K's sections of the present location were built by the Building Trades class at RCHS with many alumni of YBR helping to build the... new school for the next generation. YBR was licensed for 2-6 year old children until 1995 when another child care center that provided infant to 2 year old care suddenly closed. The director at the time, Melanie Griffiths, was able to expedite the expansion of the school and the license to provide a safe school for those children. YBR has continued to provide infant to 5 year old care since then and enrolls between 80 and 90 children each year. YBR has always had the mission of providing quality care and early education in a safe environment to all of the children in Rockbridge County, Buena Vista, and Lexington. YBR supports a culture of diversity through need blind admissions and provides scholarships to approximately 30% of our students annually - all due to the consistent generosity of benefactors including: Grace Episcopal Church, United Way, Kappa Alpha National Fraternity, Washington and Lee University and many members of the community that support our Annual Fund campaign and our Tasters Choice event each May.
