XVT Solutions is pleased to announce that we have received formal recognition for Best ICT Solution at the annual 2012 TAS ICT Awards for the Electronic Recording and Reporting of Controlled Drugs system. In 2008 XVT Solutions commenced collaboration with Pharmaceutical Services Branch in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Pharmacist of Tas... mania to design solutions to address the problems around the use and misuse of prescription drugs - highlighted by calls from coroners, law enforcers and consumer groups which has been the subject of recent media coverage. We developed a solution based on analysing dispensing events from all community and hospital pharmacies in real-time, where sophisticated data matching and risk profiling can identify patients at risk of harm, as well as detecting people suspected of trafficking in painkillers, forging prescriptions and "doctor shopping". Having been in place for 2 years, the result goes against the national and global trend that has been the subject of much media attention - the mortality rates associated with the use of these drugs in Tasmania has reversed. Over the past year we have worked with the Australian Government to extend the Tasmanian system to deliver a national solution that provides cross-border controls and greater information to assist health professionals in clinical decision making. This system is currently being enhanced to cater for a national solution which will be made available to all states and territories.
