Woolston Printing

Woolston Printing was established in 1925, in the garage of the current owner's great grandfather, GW Woolston. Over the past 90 years times have certainly changed in the printing industry, especially with the huge development in technology. The current owners commenced a statewide service and expansion program in 2005. This resulted in space rapid... ly diminishing at the former Elizabeth St site in Launceston CBD and their rented factory in Invermay. Construction of the new, 1650sqm purpose built print facility commenced at Western Junction in early 2008 and was completed later that year. During this time customer service increased statewide, grew interstate and eventually internationally. Woolston Printing currently exports in excess of 20% of product manufactured and has print hubs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Five years after moving into the facility at Western Junction, Woolston Printing had installed a total of 8 new machines and was beginning to outgrow again. Commencement of an additional print facility began mid 2013 and was completed by the end of the year. A further 2000sqm of floor space was added to the rear of the existing building with fire doors connecting the two facilities. The new facility houses a Kolbus PUR high speed binding line, the only machine of this kind in Tasmania, an additional Stahl folder, a Heidelberg high speed press and other ancillary machines. A combination of these machines give Woolston Printing the edge on large run printing, binding and embellishing services. Aside from the building expansion, Woolston Printing made other significant moves forward throughout 2013. An Agfa CPT unit was installed - producing savings on plate costs and decreasing all offset print lead-times. Graphic design services were brought in-house - speeding up artwork and proofing. Since installing the CTP unit in 2013, numbers of plates run were in excess of 350 per month.
