Woodbine House

Woodbine House was founded in 1985 by the father of a child with Down syndrome who hoped to give other parents access to the type of practical, empathetic information he had struggled to find for himself. Since those pre-Internet days, our mission has grown to encompass publishing accessible, empowering books for families, teachers, and professiona... ls who are seeking guidance and support in helping children and adults with any disability achieve their potential. Although information dissemination has changed radically since Woodbine House was founded, we still serve the disability community by striving to be a trusted source of accurate, positive, and up-to-date information. We provide this information in books that are created by parents and professionals who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for people with disabilities. All of us at Woodbine House have some personal experience with special needs. As such, our lives are touched every day by many of the issues and topics we cover in our books, and we experience the emotions that go along with loving someone with a difference-it's what we think enables us to communicate through our books in ways that connect to parents and professionals. Because of how we view our work, our publishing standards are unique. We do not publish any book until we think it offers as much tangible, practical information as our authors are able to provide. And we work very hard to make sure the writing in our books connects with our readers. That's why it may sometimes take us longer to bring out new books.
