(WNY United) is a primary substance abuse prevention and education agency designed to train and mobilize local schools and communities to implement proven strategies that prevent the abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other dangerous drugs.Utilizing the latest prevention technology, we offer com... prehensive, sustained prevention services to high-risk schools and communities that willingly enter into long-term partnership agreements with our agency to foster the development of healthy, capable young people.WNY United has formally partnered with the Buffalo Public School system since 1996 and has been fully cleared through the Buffalo Public School Services Matrix and the Say YES/AIR Core Competency Review Process to provide a comprehensive array of prevention services.WNY United also has long standingpartnership agreements with Lake Shore, Frontier and Cleveland Hill school districts. WNY United was started in 1986 by Bob and Mindy Rich as a community problem solving initiative of the United Way. e have an annual operating budget of approximately $1,000,000, with 81% of that coming from the NY State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.Additional resources are provided by the Erie County Youth Bureau, the John R. Oishei Foundation, the United Way, the Rich Family Foundation, some partner schools and private contributors.Fiscal and program oversight is provided by an active Board of Directors and the agency is audited annually by an independent accounting firm.
