Sheriff Steve Hepperly has been with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office since 1992. He was elected Sheriff in 2020. Deputies are the backbone of the law enforcement services for Winnebago County. Patrol Deputies are the first responders for emergency dispatch, criminal investigations, accident investigations, civil service, court services and ev... ery type of call for service. The Sheriff's Office is involved in the Rx Prescription Drug take back program and is involved in the National night out. The Sheriff's Office is also involved in D.A.R.E., a national program which brings educational information to schools about drug abuse. The Sheriff's Department also has two K-9 Officers actively engaged in drug enforcement and tracking services. Winnebago County Deputies are involved in state and regional intelligence organizations and are constantly upgrading their training to bring the highest quality of service to Winnebago County. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office provides primary law enforcement for all of rural Winnebago County, as well as the cities of Buffalo Center, Leland, Thompson, Scarville, and Rake.
