Thank you for your patience and underst... anding. Wilton Township is located about 40 miles south of Chicago, in Will County, Illinois. Wilton is predominantly agricultural; it has no municipality within its borders. The Wilton Township government consists of elected Township Supervisor, Township Clerk, Board of Trustees, and the Highway Commissioner. The Illinois State statutes have given townships three major responsibilities: general assistance to the needy, property assessment for tax purposes, and maintenance and construction of rural roads and bridges. Community Building Managers are also elected to operate and maintain the township's community building. The Wilton Township Cemetery is located on Cedar Road, south of Wilton Center. The township provides maintenance and perpetual care for the cemetery under the guidance of an appointed board. The term of office of elected officers is four years and they are elected the first Tuesday, after the first Monday in April. Election is held every four years, in the year following the president is elected, i.e., 2017, 2021, etc. Newly elected officers assume duty of their offices on the third Monday of the month following their election, except the assessor who takes office the following January 1st.
