Willmotts Transport

Willmotts Transport Ltd was founded in 1918 by George Willmott at the end of the First World War, with its base in Wells, Somerset. Willmotts fleet started with an ex RAF Leyland. In 1936 they bought their first AEC vehicle, which set a precedent for the future, and since that date the fleet has been based on AEC. Originally the core work was movin... g cheese, paper, and drink, and servicing the local agricultural industry. In the 1980s Willmotts changed to a fleet of predominantly DAFs, operating 80 trucks and 150 trailers at their peak; when they moved to their existing home in Waterlip, near Shepton Mallet and proceeded to build workshops and two 20,000 square ft ambient warehouses on the site. Willmotts grew to be a renowned independent haulier with its roots firmly based in the Mendips in Somerset. DB Haulage was established in 1992 near Wells, Somerset by David Buxton as a one-man operation after he purchased a DAF 18 ton rigid vehicle. He began working as a sub-contractor for established haulage companies in the South West. By 1997, the company had increased its fleet size to 7 vehicles and incorporated to become DJB Haulage Ltd with its depot and yard in Radstock near Bath. Since then it has steadily grown to become one of the leading distributors in the supermarket industry throughout the UK and Europe. In 2010 Willmotts Transport and DJB Haulage joined forces under the umbrella of the ADMP Group Ltd, bringing together the 40,000 square feet of warehousing from Willmotts and the vehicles of DJB Haulage, to improve and continue growth in both companies. 2010 also saw DJB Haulage Ltd set up a container division in Marchwood Industrial Estate, Southampton, to support existing contracts and to establish new ones. The Southampton operation moves in excess of 15,000 containers by road per year through the port of Southampton to final destinations in the UK.
