WHYY is a nonprofit public media organization that provides journalism, educational programming, television broadcasting, radio broadcasting, digital content, community engagement initiatives, and public service media throughout the Greater Philadelphia region and surrounding areas. The organization serves audiences across Pennsylvania, Delaware, N... ew Jersey, and neighboring communities through a combination of broadcast, digital, and in-person platforms. As one of the leading public media institutions in the United States, WHYY focuses on delivering trusted journalism, lifelong learning opportunities, cultural programming, civic dialogue, and educational resources to diverse audiences. The organization's origins trace back to the early nineteen fifties when civic leaders, educators, foundations, and community advocates collaborated to establish a public broadcasting institution capable of delivering educational and cultural programming to residents of the Philadelphia region. The Metropolitan Philadelphia Educational Radio and Television Corporation was formed to support this mission, eventually becoming the foundation of what is known today as WHYY. The organization launched its radio broadcasting operations in nineteen fifty-four and subsequently expanded into television broadcasting, becoming a significant participant in the American public media landscape.Read More
