Whelan Oil Refining Ltd is based in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. It re-refines 50,000 tonnes per annum of used oils to produce a high quality Group I Base Oil for sale to the lubricant manufacturing industry. There are over 300,000 tonnes of Waste Oil collected in the UK every year and Whelan seek to purchase primarily good quality crank-case oils from Waste Oil Collectors to satisfy its feedstock needs. The refinery is situated only 10 minutes by truck from Junction 15 and from Junction 16 of the M6 and is open to receive feedstock and deliver products on a 24/7 basis. Waste Oil is primarily used lubricating oil from automotive use it is used engine oil from cars/trucks/buses and ships. It is not highly flammable in the same way that petrol is. However, it is very valuable. At a time when oil and oil products are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive, Whelan Refining Limited will be recycling and producing the single most valuable product obtainable from the Crude Oil barrel. Base Oil, the base for all lubricants, is nearly twice as valuable as Petrol or Diesel and it is scarce it is only 1% of a crude oil refinerys output. Used engine oil can be recycled and re-refined.
