Back around 1960, Larry Guile began his journey to become a Registered Maine Guide. It was then that Larry began fishing with his Dad in the lakes of the Rangeley Region. He and his Dad fished Rangeley for the most part, but made a few trips to Mooselook and Upper Richardson each summer. During these early years with his father, he learned and bega... n to appreciate the area and understood the importance of conservation to our fishery. His dad instilled in him the idea that they never kept a fish unless it was badly hooked and would die anyway. As he grew to an adult, he was always trying new things and "tweaking" the things that were already successful. Fishing was becoming an obsession. But more importantly, the enjoyment of time shared and time on the water was most important. During that time, Larry has taken many beautiful Landlocked Salmon above the "elusive" 5-pound mark. Larry was very successful as a recreational fisherman. Many people that knew Larry encouraged him to turn this recreational activity into a part-time career. After some thought, he tried to become a Registered Maine Guide and he did. And there, Westwind Charters and guide service was born.
