Westbay Community Action provides multiple, centralized services at Westbay Community Action's human services mall. Westbay Community Action's programs are available to Kent County residents primarily, but Westbay Community Action also provide some services for Washington County and statewide. Westbay Community Action's funding comes from an array of local, state and federal funds, as well as private organizations, donations and fundraising. Based in Warwick, the second largest city in Rhode Island, Westbay is part of an energetic group of non-profit community action programs (CAPs) in Rhode Island (RICAA) and around the country. Westbay Community Action is a charitable organization that educates children, feeds seniors, and responds to any number of emergencies that can occur to an individual, single parent or family. After the initial emergency response, Westbay's staff work diligently with clients to address the underlying cause(s) of the crisis, to find a long-term solution. A variety of services, including referrals to other organizations, guide clients toward building a foundation for self sufficiency and improved circumstances. While the current economic meltdown has brought many new people to Westbay Community Action's door, Westbay Community Action's services have always been in need. In addition, the cost of living in Kent County is higher than the national average, and West Warwick is one of the state's poorest community.
