WEB is a distributor; we buy energy from ContourGlobal Bonaire. Wind power generates about 30% of our total demand for energy. The remainder is generated by diesels and fuel oil. Furthermore WEB offers its clients the concept of Pagabon, which is a pre-paid system for electricity. We have noticed that our clients become more conscious of their ener... gy consumption, when they have a better understanding of the costs. This causes them to manage their energy use, which results in fewer emissions. Bonaire uses alternative energy sources to generate power. For our water production we use the process of reverse osmosis. This process uses only a quarter of the energy of a conventional unit. WEB strives to achieve efficient production processes, that make us less dependent on imported and conventional energy sources such asfossil fuels. Shortly WEB - if all installations are functioning properly - will utilize wastewater. By processing it, WEB prevents wastewater discharging into our coastal waters. Thus contributing to the water cycle and local agriculture and livestock. Wastewater has a high value, because it has cost us a lot of energy to produce it. How will sustainability be implemented long term? WEB has chosen the path of sustainable development. As such we are helping to build a green image for Bonaire as an island with a high appreciation of its nature.WEB is evolving and there are other possibilities to increase sustainable operations. We have a pilot project on harvesting solar energy, since Bonaire has sun in abundance. The pilot runs until the end of 1963, after which it will be evaluated by early 2015. Based on the outcome we will decide weather solar energy is a feasible concept for Bonaire as a whole.
