WAVE 891 FM was first owned by Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation. Back then, it was known as DWKB-FM (89.1), and first aired at 1975 and in a short period of time, became one of the countrys most easy listening FM music station. In 1990s, the late rapper Francis Magalona worked with the station through his program The Word-Up Show which air... ed every Saturday nights. During this time, the station was rebranded as 89 DMZ which played dance, hip hop and remixed music. . It also became the home of the Mobile Circuit. It is on 2001 when IBC (Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation) and Blockbuster Broadcasting System INC. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quest Broadcasting Inc. through The Radio Partners) went into a government-sponsored bidding and the latter won the rights to the frequency and the facilities. However, the network still shares its transmission facilities of IBC 13 to 2014 when it began transmitting from atop of Strata 2000. The stations studio is located at the Strata 2000 Bldg., Ortigas Center, Pasig City, with its transmitter located along Roosevelt Avenue, San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City. Wave 891 began regular operations shortly on March 1, 2001. Managed by former Magic 89.9 jock Rolando Sulit a.k.a. Joe DMango, the station began its operations with a pop soul, pop jazz easy listening format. Some months later, its programming gradually shifted to full pop R&B. Wave 891s listenership profile consists of some of the pop music industrys best. Its programs are also acclaimed for successfully integrating the largely western pop R&B sound in an Asian market. Wave 89.1 FM is now a POP / R&B / Contemporary Hit Radio format broadcasting 24hrs a day and is now managed by Nelson A.K.A "Sgt.Pepper" Capulso.
