Who is Washington County
Since that time, SWEDA has transformed into a collaborative organization between the City of Springfield and Washington County. Each entity appoint s three board members to make up the six-member board of directors. SWEDA employs a full time Executive Director to manage the day-to-day operations and carry out the mission of the organization as set forth by the board of directors. The agency has three main tasks: recruit new industry, retain existing industry, and provide workforce development. Over the past 10 years, the community's industrial base has diversified and those efforts will continue. SWEDA was formed in the late 1990's, after community leaders realized that having a part-time development authority wouldn't attract the industry Springfield/Washington County needed to stay vital, much less grow. Since that time, SWEDA has transformed into a collaborative organization between the City of Springfield, and Washington County. Each entity appoints three board members to make up the six member board of directors.
