He has built five of his own low energy buildings and is a Passivhaus enthusiast! I am fascinated by the challenge of making the theory of low energy, airtight, insulated construction work in practice. I have spent my life seeking to understand energy use in buildings so that we can live very comfortably using fewer resources. Mike worked for Hoare Lea as a building services engineer for many years involved in the design of schools, offices and healthcare buildings in the South West. Having discovered Passivhaus and become a Certified Passivhaus Designer, Mike decided a change was need and wanted to find a way to focus his energy on this. In 2013 Mike decided the best way to do this was to join Pete and Sally at WARM. Mike is interested in making low energy buildings more mainstream and an affordable option to more people. On the rare occasions when not using PHPP, Mike can be found paddling and sailing around Plymouth Sound. Karl is passionately concerned with the quality of the built environment. The focus of his interest is in providing buildings which are both energy efficient and a delight to inhabit, along with developing appropriate and sensitive solutions for future-proofing our existing building stock. He sees our built environment, as much as our green spaces and countryside, as an integral part of our culture and landscape, needing robust and well considered interventions.
