Wanderfly

At Wanderfly, we have a great startup team with an impressive array of complementary skills and knowledge. But we also know that we can't be all things to all people, touching every area of technology, travel, business, and social media. So we found a way to deal with that: we made some friends. A large chunk of the technology we've built into Wand... erfly is dedicated to creating a framework for disparate content from different partners to live seamlessly side by side. The result is that Wanderfly is largely a giant mash-up, a partnership of websites and companies that have established themselves as leaders in travel and media. Our goal is not to compete with these guys, but to collaborate with them. We've created an experience that brings together the best aspects of travel planning, rather than trying to break them apart. If we need a beautiful photo of Paris, we search through Creative Commons images on Flickr. If we need the most up to date information on a destination, we can call on one of our many open-source sites to create a custom description. We pull in city activities from sites like foursquare and Yelp, among others. We connect users to their friends using Facebook and Twitter. In short, we are pulling the best of travel and lifestyle sites on the web into one, easy to manage space. We also understand that pulling large amounts of content from various sources can result in low-quality clutter, as is the case for many online aggregators. So we've built a custom CMS which allows us to easily manage what comes from where (more on that later). This way we can put human-driven curation over blind algorithmic aggregation, and choose and edit the highest quality material from the web to ensure that Wanderfly stays sharp and current. On top of that, we have acquired partnerships with some of the most reputable companies in travel, giving us a new level of quality content and functionality.
